Katie Garman, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and the IGSP. She received her medical degree from Duke and completed both her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Duke. Dr. Garman's main research interest is the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal malignancy, and the detection of pre-malignant disease. She is working on molecular pathways in Barrett's esophagus, a precursor of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Her overall goal is to apply work from the bench to risk stratification of patients with pre-malignant disease to improve cancer screening and surveillance in the gastrointestinal tract.
